The apricot tree has been cultivated in China for at least 3,000 years. From there, Chinese caravans are said to have brought the tree to the shores of the Caspian Sea, notably to Armenia.

It is also traditionally used by the Himalayan peoples to nourish and protect their skin against extreme weather conditions. The apricot is associated with Venus, goddess of Love. It is a symbol of passion.
