Mildness additive, reduces irritation in anionic and amphoteric surfactant systems. Modifies viscosity at low concentrations. Coupling agent (reduces flaking in carbomer-based systems, enhances conditioning effects of quaternaries). Emulsion stabilizer, wetting agent, dispersant, superfatting agent, water soluble emollient, plasticizer and solubilizer for perfumes and lipophilic actives.
